Why Does Making the Right Decision Feels So Hard for Perfectionists?

Recognize the Pattern.

Do you spend more time deciding what to do than actually doing it?

Perfectionists can feel pressure to find the one right answer, avoid regret, and predict every possible outcome. Sometimes the hardest part isn't making a decision—it's accepting that you can't know everything in advance. Perfectionist can feel stuck in making decisions since not everything can be perfect. This may lead to procrastination and self doubt.

So how do you get unstuck?

Take a look at the decisions that you have to make and view them from a bigger picture. What does your every day do for you in the long run? Break tasks down into smaller tasks. Seems simple right? Then why is it so hard sometimes do take action?

As a Dance/Movement Therapist I believe in moving your body daily. What does moving your body look like? Maybe it is going for a walk, dancing around the kitchen, riding a bike, or taking a workout class. Sometimes moving our body can give us a difference perspective. Time to not think about all the things at once. The mental space to relax so we can make a better plan or decision.
